Configuring an ESC

This guide covers the basic steps to configure your Hargrave Technologies ESC using the Configurator tool

Connect your ESC

Start by connecting your ESC to your computer. This can be done through connecting a USB directly to your ESC or through DroneCAN by connecting a CAN adapter or Flight Computer.

Connecting with USB

Connect your compatible ESC to your computer with a type C USB cable

Connect your compatible ESC with a USB cable to your computer.
Connect your compatible ESC with a USB cable to your computer.


Click the 'Connect an ESC' button to open the COM port selector. Depending on which page of the Configurator you are on there may be multiple 'Connect' buttons for convenience.

Select the correct COM port. The COM port selection dialog will look different depending on whether you are using the downloaded (left) or the online (right) version of the configurator.

Connecting with DroneCAN

Configure Settings

After connection you will be directed to the ESC page to configure settings. From this page you can change settings, create and load settings presets and flash firmware.

Auto Reconnection

When the 'Auto Reconnect' toggle is active, ESC reconnection over USB and DroneCAN is detected and the ESC is loaded into the configurator. From configurator version 1.5.0 this is enabled by default.
