Drive Tuning

Each time the motor controller receives a change in input command which would result in a change of motor duty, a slew rate is applied to the response. This prevents the motor controller from creating transient conditions where it can no longer track and control the motor. In most applications, particularly with multiple units as part of the system, this setting should be left default on the motor controller. Any ramp up/down rates should be modified and tuned from the central control point (such as a flight controller).

If the motor cannot operate underneath a specific duty cycle, it is recommended to set the minimum duty cycle setting to ensure smooth tracking of rpm. Note setting this may result in noisy RPM readings due to the motor not performing full rotations at low duty cycles.

On motors with a low number of pole pairs (< 4 pairs) or motor Kv (< 700 Kv), the de-sync protection mechanism may prevent throttling up above a fixed duty cycle. It is recommended to set the motor pole pair and motor Kv settings, to allow the motor controller to adjust the protection thresholds to better suit the motor.
